Heckler and Koch’s MR556 Semi-Automatic Rifle is a direct descendant of the HK416. Developed by HK as a premium level commercial/civilian firearm with match rifle capability, the MR556 is an improvement over conventional AR-type carbines and rifles.

HK’s MR556 uses the HK gas piston operating system. Employing a piston and solid operating “pusher” rod in place of the gas tube usually found in the AR15, M16 and M4 style weapons, this system is far superior. It virtually eliminates malfunctions since hot carbon fouling and waste gases do not enter the receiver area.

Is HK MR556 worth it?

Yes, they are very overpriced. The HK416 that the MR556A1 is based on has two distinguishable advantages over the M4A1 and that is the barrel of the HK416 is one of the best barrels in any service weapon and it’s free-floated making it more accurate. The barrel will last up to 25,000 rounds from what I’ve heard
