The top-end Made in USA CMMG Banshee 300 AR semi-automatic SBR series and AR pistols builds upon the base configuration 100-series and the compelling mid-200 series guns and offers even more. 300s offer more ambidextrous features, 10 Cerakote color choices and many also have a vertical grip in front. Ricochetarms

The color choices are attractive and, in some cases, really creative. The list is Bazooka Green, Burnt Bronze, Flat Dark Earth, Graphite Black, Midnight Bronze, Olive Drab Green, Slate, Sniper Gray, Stormtrooper White and Titanium, which is a metallic silver white.

For each color, the stock, pistol grip, magazine and barrel are matte black. So are all the minor components and trim pieces such as the flash suppressor, trigger, safety, ejection port, etc. But the upper and lower receiver, trigger guard and handguard are all the named color. Of course, the Stormtrooper White is particularly fetching. premiumnotes

By the way, CMMG is based in Boonville, Missouri, and is well known for making various AR-15 rifles beyond just the Banshee. It also makes various conversion kids and add on accessories. Mega Quality Currency

Like the 100s and 200s, the Banshee 300s have light 7075-T6 aluminum forged upper and lower receivers. These are given a Type III hard coat anodization for a strong, protective outer layer. The 4140 chrome moly barrel gets immersed for a salt bath nitride finish (SBN finish) conferring increased durability and corrosion resistance.

Many components such as the trigger, trigger guard and M-LOK handguard are diligently made in-house by CMMG. The lineup features an oversized ambidextrous CMMG Mil-Spec charging handle and an ambidextrous CMMG Mil-Spec safety selector.

The CMMG RML M-LOK handguard is free-floating for increased accuracy. It has the typical octagon with a raised roof cross-section. A Picatinny rail crests the top and continues over onto the upper receiver. The 3, 6 and 9 o’clock sides have M-LOK slots. The RML also gets Type III hard coat anodization. This gun has many variants (further discussed below). Many of them also get the MAGPUL M-LOK MVG forward-mounted vertical grip. It’s black polymer and integrates perfectly with the weed aussie.

The muzzle is fronted by a single-chamber square chamber SV muzzle brake. At the bottom is a textured Magpul MOE pistol grip. And, in back, is either CMMG’s own RIPSTOCK or RIPBRACE as the buttstock.

Like the 100 and 200 series, the 300s include two versions for each of the following chamberings:

10 mm, 5.7×28 mm (Conversion), 9 mm (Conversion), 9 mm (SigP320), 22 LR, 300 BLK, 308 WIN, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, 5.7×28 mm (FN), 7.62×39 mm and 9 mm (Glock)!

Each has a “pistol” version and a rifle version with a more minimal buttstock and a vertical grip below the front of the handguard. Barrel lengths are 4.5″ (2 choices), 5″ (13) and 8″ (7). It is interesting that 8” is the upper end of the 300-series because it is the bottom end of the 100 and 200-series Banshees. And, in fact, the 300 series has the shortest barrel versions of their respective calibers across the 100, 200 and 300 series. Please note: the receiver design varies depending on ammunition/magazine types.

Let’s use the Banshee 300, MkGs, 9mm as an example to gather dimensions. First, as is probably obvious, this is the 9×19 mm version that uses the MkGs receiver designed to work with Glock stick magazines. And indeed, it comes with a double-stack 33-round Glock mag, which has a durable polymer case and numbered witness holes.

The barrel has a medium taper, is 5” long and is fronted by a 1/2″x28 TPI thread. In pistol guise, it has a 5-position 12.5 ounce CMMG Micro/CQB RipBrace. It’s absolutely minimalist, L-shaped and has QD sockets. It also has an ambidextrous sling plate. This pistol’s unloaded weight is 4 pounds 10 ounces and it barely measures 18.9” with the brace in collapsed position.

Is the CMMG Banshee worth it?
This is not a cheap gun, the series 300 Banshee Mk17 costs 1,549.95 according to the gun’s MSRP. The 100 series with it’s simpler loadout is about 350 bucks cheaper. The 300 series and it’s enhanced controls, brace inclusion, and cerakote finish are certainly worth the cost.

The rifle variant is the same, except it weighs 4 pounds 11 ounces unloaded and measures 19.0” to 22.0” depending on stock setting. The extra weight is because of the MAGPUL MVG (MAGPUL vertical grip).
